These burglaries, which occurred during the morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 23, are the latest of a string of theft incidents in Westport.
The residential burglary occurred after two suspects entered through an unlocked door while the residents were asleep. At least one item was stolen.
The three garage theft suspects also entered through an unlocked entryway while residents were home sleeping. In addition, at least 14 unlocked cars throughout town were sifted through, and several had items stolen.
One vehicle, which was unlocked with the keys inside, was also stolen but recovered after being spotted latter and briefly pursued by Fairfield Police. A 17-year-old suspect from Bridgeport was arrested after K-9 tracks from both Fairfield and Westport Police Department.
Additional patrol officers will be deployed overnight, and residents are advised to follow the “9 p.m. Routine” for added security.
“The 9 p.m. Routine is a national public service campaign and a simple and effective way to prevent theft,” said the Westport Police Department in a press release. “It includes removing valuables from vehicles, locking car doors and bringing your keys inside. Take a few extra moments during your nightly routine to make sure the doors to your home are locked, your garage doors are secure and exterior lights are turned on.”
